Specialties
Our expertise is best used when executing your vision
requires major remodeling. In one example, the client
wanted no surface left untouched. In others, walls
have been moved or disappeared, and rooms that were
previously of low value have been translated into
beautiful, cherished spaces. To achieve these marvels,
we manage various contractors, subcontractors,
furniture and cabinet makers, stonemasons, lighting
analysts, and other types of construction crews with
skills demonstrated to us on our many prior projects.
In the interiors, we have extensive product knowledge,
and can lead you to a wide variety of products that
match your taste. We’re also experts in kitchen and
bath remodeling, as well as lighting design.

Firm Profile
We have led projects in places as diverse as
both coasts of the US, Aspen, Guam and Cairo, over the
last 30 years. Locally, we’ve completed projects as far
north in the Bay Area as Sea Ranch and as far
south as Los Altos. Our office is located in Orinda;
we have done many projects in the Lamorinda area.
Our repeat client base includes Fortune 500 CEOs,
technology entrepreneurs, college presidents and many
others who appreciate the value and quality of our
design and project management expertise. From
traditional to cutting edge contemporary design,
we bring fresh ideas, a sense of adventure and a
refined aesthetic to every project. Jan Gunn, the
principal, was on the Board of Directors of
Northern California ASID from 2004 – 2007, 2010 - 2011
where she is Director of Professional Development for the
Society’s 700 members.

Cathleen Gouveia is the Design Principal of Cathleen Gouveia Design, a Belvedere based design firm focused on delivering high-end residential interior design to homes in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and beyond. Her work has been featured on Home and Garden Television (“HGTV”), “California Home and Living Television”, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Marin Independent Journal, and several other periodicals.

Cathleen's career began in the New York advertising industry where she worked for several noteworthy advertising agencies including Grey, Backer Spielvogel Bates, Ally & Gargano, and Saatchi & Saatchi. After managing multi-media campaigns for several Blue Chip advertising clients, she added to her accomplishments a Master’s Degree in Interior Architecture and Design at the world-renowned Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In 1998, she relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. She spent several years working as a Designer at prestigious design firms including Brayton and Hughes and Barbara Scavullo Design. Cathleen Gouveia Design was founded in Sausalito, CA in April, 2004. Cathleen Gouveia is an Allied Member of the ASID, and a Member of IIDA. She is presently working on the launch of a signature collection of home furnishings and accessories under a new line entitled, “La Maison Marin”.

The hallmark of Cathleen’s style is a conceptual perspective that is unique to the history and vernacular of a building; and the rich personal history of each design client. Having studied in Europe, Cathleen has established a cornucopia of unique design sources, artisans and suppliers. She invites her clients to collaborate during the design process, while offering the highest level of customer service and project management.

In her free time, Cathleen may be found indulging her passion for travel, art, design, music and boating; as well as a love of the great outdoors. She divides her time between San Francisco, CA; Bay Head NJ; and East Hampton, NY.

Diane served as Treasurer for ASID California Peninsula chapter (2000-2002) & Treasurer for the Student Career Forum 2005. She taught interior design business courses at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising College in San Francisco(2000-2002) and Interior Design for the University of California at Santa Cruz (2006) while carrying a full client load. She has been a guest speaker for the Student Career Forum for the last 6 years. She is an ASID Industry partner for Design Manager, a software company for the interior design industry. Diane also assists other professional interior designers to enhance their interior design business & lectures on various design subjects for designers & clients.
